Over the course of our
internet presence we have posted on services provided by Expage, Geocities, and
now Blogspot. Since those very first
postings it has been obvious the internet has changed how information is shared
and accessed. As example, thirty years
ago we depended on mailed newsletters and phone calls to announce events such
as celebrations or special meetings. Now
with a single click of the mouse we can share our newsletters globally, not
just for members living in the United States, but on other continents.
Although not meant as an
all-encompassing list, we’ve identified some community partners with a web
presence that we feel are under-exposed:
*** The Village of La Rue has had a Face
Book account for some time now. It has
been used to post boil alerts, closings, outages, celebrations, and
observances. They have added a web site
which is even more full-featured. The
community calendar, Village Council minutes, and other important information are
posted regularly. You don’t need to live
in the Village to make use of the information.
Check them out at:
*** The La Rue Community Alliance (LCA) was formed as a non-profit group to
improve and enhance local businesses, and address flooding issues. You can check out their site at:
Food is not
only necessary for existence, but a prominent feature of many meetings. Recent Inspection dinners have been catered
by Coonie’s, and many regular meetings feature pizza from JC’s. Each has a web presence which features the
offerings and specials. We encourage you
to check them out:

JC’s Pizza:
The faith community has always had a notable
presence in our community:
LaRue Baptist Church
LaRue United Methodist Church
Other listings, in no
particular order:
*** The Richwood Bank has helped us as
well as many community households.
*** As a volunteer organization, the Scioto
Valley Fire District provides a wonderful service to the community, and are
always seeking additional volunteers.
*** J-Lenco, Inc., provides services for
the manufacturing community.
*** Ridgeway Hatchery has been a staple of
the community for 90+ years.
*** Big P’s Pit Stop
*** Ford’s Appliance Service
*** Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Homes
LaRue Lions Club
There is one more site to
bring to your attention. Many local
residents have this book marked, and check it regularly during rainy
periods. As you probably have guessed,
it is the water level for the Scioto River:
There are other services,
activities, and organizations within and around our community. Many have web sites and/or Face Book pages,
which has almost supplanted word-of-mouth advertising. Our plan is to add to our “Local Interests”
page as businesses or organizations are made known to us. If you have a suggested listing, please let
us know at larue463@yahoo.com.
